Hey there! Hope you all are doing well on this Wednesday. Halfway through the week and another month down.
Yay! My first Favourites blog post and I am so super excited to share with you what I feel have been some super friends of mine for the last month. Okay, there is one that has been recently added (used for about ten days or so), but I added it anyway because the products that preceeded it were amazing. I loved them. And after testing out this particular product at the Edgars Fourways Mall store, I just knew that I would get it someday.
And the June favourites are:
- Simple Exfoliating Facial Wipes
- Yves Rocher Serum Vegetal 3 – Wrinkles & Radiance Dazzling Cream
- Crede Natural Oils Virgin Organic Coconut Oil
- Pure Organic Moroccan Argan Oil
- Pure Organic Raw Honey (unfiltered, unprocessed, unheated)
- Rihanna 50ml Nude fragrance
- Smashbox BrowTech
A lot of skin care products as you can see. Like I said in previous post, I am not so big on heavy full coverage makeup unless it is absolutely necessary. I prefer to just lightly conceal areas that need to be evened out and then apply my favourite BB Cream from Smashbox. If need be, I will set with a translucent powder or a pressed powder compact.
Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE cosmetics. But I prefer to get my skin in tip top condition (as far as is possible) so that the makeup simply enhances the glow, beauty and health of my skin. Perhaps the July favourites will have more cosmetics goodies? Will have to wait and see.
Right! So let’s get started. Item number 1…
Simple Exfoliating Facial Wipes
What life was like before these, I don’t know. But facial wipes have become such a necessity for me. I have tried many other brands but they either left my skin dry or just didn’t clean my face properly. These exfoliating wipes however, were fantastic and I will most certainly, without a shadow of a doubt, be repurchasing them once again.
These wipes are double textured. One side is a rough woven texture (yet gentle) to help lift off dead skin cells and the other is smooth to help remove makeup and other dirt and oil on the skin. They are made for sensitive skin and leave no soapy residue.
The Simple Exfoliating Wipes contain
2 Added Vitamins
PRO-VITAMIN B5 known to help restore, soften and smooth
VITAMIN E known to moisturize to improve skin condition
1 Skin loving Ingredient
ALOE VERA known to soothe and condition
NO DYES and NO ARTIFICIAL PERFUMES and NO HARSH CHEMICALS to upset skin
There are twenty-five wipes in each pack. I don’t use them everyday since I don’t wear makeup everyday and my cleanser does a good job of getting rid of dirt and oil on my face. But when I do wear makeup, I pre-cleanse with these wipes to remove my makeup.
They can also be used to cleanse the skin if you are just lazy, too tired or don’t have time to go through your entire skin care regimen – which shouldn’t happen very often anyway, not so?
They really do work well. And are great for a post-workout cleanse of the skin.
If the Exfoliating wipes are a bit too much for your skin, the Simple skin care line also have normal smooth textured wipes that are available at Dischem or at Clicks and are between R45-R55 a pack.
Yves Rocher Serum Vegetal 3 – Wrinkles & Radiance Dazzling Cream
If you remember a few posts ago, I wrote about this eye serum that I had bought from Woolworths Fourways Mall (click here to read the post), I was looking for an eye serum (since my Argan Oil which I used as an eye serum was finished) for my dry-looking and dull eye area. Having used this serum for about two weeks now, It has made such a great difference. My eye area is now moisturised, it is brighter and my eyes look more awake and yes, prettier.
It has done an amazing job of really plumping up my eye area. Bare in mind that I don’t have either wrinkles nor crows feet around my eye area. I was looking to just brighten up the area and get it moisturised and hydrated. So I can’t really say in terms of it reducing wrinkles and other such signs of ageing around the eyes.
I doubt though, that it would do a great job on wrinkles if you already have them because when I bought it, I was told that it is fantastic for a first time eye serum. So that would tell me that it’s best used by people in their twenties who aren’t so concerned about wrinkles but can still help start preventing them. For someone with more wrinkles around the eyes and other advanced signs of ageing, perhaps a more powerful serum from Lancôme, Gatineau, Chanel, Clinique or Kiehl’s would do a much better job.
The serum is available at Woolworths and retails for R155.
Crede Natural Oils Virgin Organic Coconut Oil
Another that became a quick favourite of mine. This has been such a great addition especially in winter when it’s a lot drier and your skin struggles a bit in terms of moisture and hydration. This organic virgin coconut oil from Crede Oils in Cape Town is marvelous for the skin on the body. I’ve mixed it with my favourite body moisturiser (Johnson & Johnson’s African Nurture Body Cream in Energising Marula and Kigelia – R15.95 for 300ml and R19.95 for 500ml at any supermarket). In winter, this is a great idea because the body cream alone is light and great for summer. But in winter it doesn’t last too long and the skin begins to look dry and ashy in areas such as the elbows and knees.
This coconut oil helps to lock in the moisture and goodness of the body cream for longer and gives such a fantastic and healthy-looking glow to the skin.
I have read and heard that coconut oil can also be used on the face – I don’t really like it on my face because it tends to make my face look greasy even though my skin is dry in most areas. My forehead being the oiliest place on my face just looks a right down grease fest with the coconut oil. So I limit it to my body. And I am loving it!
This coconut oil (virgin organic) retails for R121 at Neal’s Health Yard in Fourways Mall. Or else you can purchase it online at Crede Natural Oils.

Pure Organic Moroccan Argan Oil
They call it ‘liquid gold’. Okay, well I wouldn’t stretch it that far.
Some use it as a facial moisturiser. I found that it didn’t really do much in that sense. So I decided to switch and use it as an eye serum. And VOILA!! It worked like a charm.
For the purposes of an eye serum, I would definitely repurchase. But I will finish off my Yves Rocher eye serum first…and then make the painful decision of which I would prefer to purchase. Such a problem when two products work so well at the same thing.
I used the Botanica Tree of Life Pure Organic Argan Oil. It comes in two sizes with a dropper application. You only require one drop for each eye. That drop will be enough for the entire eye area (top and bottom).
Just be careful not to apply it too close to the lash line. The oil tends to seep toward the eye after a while. So leave a bit of a space and apply it in the crease of the eye on the top; and just under the bone of the eye on the bottom.
Argan Oil (the one pictured left) retails for R115 at Neal’s Health Yard in Fourways Mall or it can be purchased online at nearly any online health store available. The best in my opinion would be Faithful To Nature.
Pure Organic Raw Honey (unfiltered, unprocessed, unheated)
I did a blog post about the awesome-ness of raw unprocessed honey. Click here to read my thoughts on this incredible addition to my skin care routine.
Nude by Rihanna fragrance
And I will say it again: You CANNOT beat a Rihanna fragrance. The singer herself may be a little crazy (love her!) but her fragrances are pure class and are just divine.
The first time I got introduced to Rihanna’s fragrance was at the Edgars Northgate Shopping Centre store where I first came across the Reb’l Fleur. That was the first Rihanna fragrance I bought.
I did try the Rebelle that precedes Reb’l Fleur , but I was so taken by the Reb’l Fleur I swore I would buy it again…and again…and again!
Then. Enter Nude by Rihanna. And BOOM! Love.
Look, the lady doesn’t play around when it comes to bottling her scent. Record-breaking sales. And I can understand why. They are amazing.
On the Rihanna Perfumes site, it goes on to explain that Nude “…embodies being sexy in your own skin. Vanilla, fruit and hints of oriental spice are intoxicating.” And intoxicating they are.
The smell, according to MTV Style, entails “…notes of guava, mandarin, and pear making up the top, white florals like gardenia, Sambac jasmine, and orange blossom fill out the heart, and soft sandalwood, vanilla orchid, and musk rounding out the base.”
Agreed. It is by far the lightest of all the Rihanna fragrances. It’s got a much lighter fruity scent than the heavy fruity smell of Reb’l Fleur (which is so yummy) and the spice of Rebelle. It’s fresh and beautiful. Very summery too. Loved and will repurchase when this one is finished. And then repurchase again…and again…until a new Rihanna fragrance is introduced.
Nude by Rihanna can be found at selected Edgars, Foschini, Red Square, Stuttafords, Woolworths and Truworths stores and retails for R595 – R645 (50ml) and R395-R445 (30ml)
Smashbox BrowTech Trio in Brunette
I love the Smashbox brand (which I’m sure you have noticed). This BrowTech really does give a clean and defined finish. It’s so much better than any of the eyebrow shaping and defining products have used before and again, I will be repurchasing it.
The pot comes with two powder colours. How I use the two powders – the light powder to fill in the brow and a darker colour to define. The other part of the pot consists of the eyebrow wax used to set the powders in place and keep the brow beautifully shaped for the whole day.
I use the Smashbox brow brush to define and shape my brows (see pictured right).
Eyebrow can make or break your entire look. So it’s very important to choose the right colour for your eyebrow and to know what shape will best suit your face. Eyebrows frame your face so remember to have the right thickness and length eyebrows otherwise your look could go horribly wrong.
Smashbox products including the BrowTech can be found at selected Woolworths, Edgars and Edgars Red Square stores and retails for R205
There you have it. My June favourites. 🙂
Until the next post. Keep well.
